We are preparing to roll out resinOS 1.x to 2.x updates for resin.io-managed devices. Here’s the previous update regarding the availability of resinOS 2.0, which includes a number of big changes between 1.x and 2.x version of resinOS, including using AUFS for data storage instead of BTRFS and switching the network controller from Connman to NetworkManager. These migrations on live devices can be hairy, so we are doing as much testing as possible.
If you are interested in living on the edge, you can be a beta tester for 1.x->2.x updates!
These are the current preconditions:
- you have some Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone devices
- you don’t have too much data stored in your
/dataparition (and nothing that you are afraid to lose)
- regular (ie. not exotic) network connections (Ethernet, or Wifi with SSID/Password).
- (optional but recommended) have tried your application with another device that is running resinOS 2.x, so you know your application is compatible with the new host OS version
If it sounds good, let us know, and we’d love to have a chance to update your device! We have tested it extensively ourselves, but please note, that there is some chance of losing the device, however small.
At this stage, the updates would be run by our support team, and when we the code has sufficient milage, it will be added to the dashboard as a self-service update option (as is the case for 1.x->1.x updates at the moment, many thanks for the testers of that update!).
